The Refugee Crisis

The Refugee Crisis

2019 marks the sixth year in a row where more than one thousand refugees and migrants die in the Mediterranean Sea in an attempt to get to safety in Europe. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees, also called UNHCR for short, is pressuring countries in the European Union to continue search and rescue operations. In other words, he wants to get EU countries to actively search for refugees in boats. Charley Yaxley (the spokesman for the UNHCR) said in a statement that "The tragedy of the Mediterranean should not be allowed to continue."

In my opinion the European Union should be obligated to help refugees. Not necessarily because of the immorality of this, which is another reason why they should. No, they need to help them because of one reason: The UN. When founded UN had many goals, but one of them stands above all: "Founded [...] by 51 countries committed to keeping international peace" (United Nations, 2015). By not helping these people they are going against their very own foundations.

Brexit

Brexit

Brexit is the term used for Great Britain exiting the European Union. Brexit is the conjoinment of the words Britain, and exit.  Brexit's "due date" was set to be October 31.

There are three things the government can do:
They comply, ignore, or the prime minister resigns. If they comply they'll most likely ask for the EU to delay. If the EU delays, a new date will be set.

If the EU does not delay there are three options, there is a Brexit with no deal, a Brexit with deal, or a vote of no confidence; A vote of no confidence is basically a vote the government can do to ask the people if they want the government to continue or not.

If they ignore then there will most likely be a legal challenge from the EU. If the Prime Minister resigns we don't know what'll happen.

In my opinion Britain already went down the wrong path. Brexit shouldn't happen, as the benefits of being in the EU outweigh the negatives, and the majority of the voters were the oldest half of the population, the least affected. But for now Britain should just try to get a deal in which they can still get at least some of the benefits of the EU.
